Instagram stories help Instagram users share and express anything they want but on a temporary basis. Not everything can be uploaded as a post so stories are your best bet after that. You can put up a story and it will be visible for 24 hours. But, what do you do if you want to preserve the memory of some story? You don’t want to just lose the story after 24 hours. In such a scenario, you can use the Instagram story highlights feature. Instagram story highlights are an amazing way to organize your stories into categories and preserve them on your profile.

This way you and your followers can revisit your old stories just by visiting your profile.

This article shall guide you on how to add a story to your Instagram story highlights.

Create a New Instagram Story Highlights


  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Log in to your Instagram Account.
  3. Tap on the profile icon on the bottom right to go to your profile.
  4. Tap on New with the plus icon under the Edit Profile option.New Highlights option on Instagram
  5. Select the stories that you want to add to the highlight.

  6. Tap on Next.
  7. Select the Edit Cover option to choose a cover picture for the highlight.

  8. Tap on Done.
  9. Give a relevant name to your highlight.
  10. Select done to add the highlight to your profile.

Add a Story to an Existing Instagram Story Highlights


  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Log in to your Instagram account.
  3. Tap on the profile icon on the bottom right to go to your profile.
  4. Press and pause on the highlight to which you want to add a story.
  5. Select the Edit Highlight option.
  6. Go to the Stories tab.

  7. Select the stories that you want to add to the highlight.
  8. Tap on Next.
  9. Select done to add the highlight to your profile.

Add Current Story to an Instagram Story Highlights


  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Log in to your Instagram account.
  3. Tap on your story on the top left of your home page.
  4. Go to the story that you want to add to highlight.
  5. Select the highlight option at the bottom of the story.

  6. Tap on the existing highlight to which you want to add the story OR tap on New to add the story to a new highlight.

NOTE: All the above methods are valid for both Android and iOS devices.
