Google Slides is an excellent platform for creating exciting presentations for your viewers. But if you are looking for a new way to accentuate your slides, then try to add videos to Google Slides to make it more attention-worthy. Videos are an excellent tool to help get your point across to the viewers. Furthermore, it is a proven tactic to increase engagement among your targeted audience, especially during external marketing strategies, for which most users choose Google Slides.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a tech geek to add or edit videos on google slides since the interface provides all the features at the tip of your finger. This removes any necessity for third-party apps like video editors and enables you to make any last-minute changes quickly. Here is how:

To add videos to Google Slides:

  • First, start by opening your presentation.
  • Then choose the slide in your presentation where you want to add the video.
  • Next, select Insert from the menu bar on top, and go to Videos.

  • A new pop-up will open, giving you three options in its tab: YouTube video, URL, or Google Drive.

These three options are representations of various platforms you can search to find your desired video and add it to your google slides.

How to Add Videos to Google Slides From the Internet

On the first tab of the pop-up, you get an option to search the video on YouTube. Once you have located it, kindly select it and add it to your slide. You will get the opportunity to resize it to fit your frame of the slide.

Another method is to copy and paste the URL of the video if you have access to it. For that, go to the second tab reading by URL and paste the copied URL on the text field.  

Before the video is added to your slide, you will see a video preview. If the footage shown is correct, then select it to add it to your slide. Again you will have the adjustment control for the video. Place it however you like to display it on the slide.  

How to Add Videos to Google Slides From Google Drive


To add a video that is not present online, you must store it in your Google Drive account. For that process, follow these instructions:

  • Open your Google Drive account.
  • Next, to upload the video to your account, you can drag it from the original folder or click the New option on the Google Drive home page.
  • Then, select upload files.
  • Locate the video file in your internal storage, select it and upload it to the Google Drive account.

Ensure that the Google Drive account you used is linked to the Google Slides account on which you are giving your presentation. Use the same email account to access both, or else you will not find your uploads of google drive using the google slides.

Now, to add this video to your Google Slides, which is currently located in your Google Drive, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Insert option on your Google Slides.
  • Select Videos, and then go to the Google Drive tab of the pop-up.

  • You can search the content on your Google Drive account on the new screen.
  • Locate the video you uploaded, and click Select.

That’s it! The video will be successfully added to the Google Slide.

At this point, you may have to wait a couple of minutes for your video to be formatted for slides before you can hit play. How much time it may take depends on your video size.

Remember that you can’t crop a video once it is added to Google Slides; however, you can use the drag and drop option to resize it to keep it proportional to the size of your slide. To that, click on the one corner edge and drag the make the video screen small or big until it fits the box of the slide appropriately. Use this to make the video go full screen while presenting.

In addition, you can also play around with the remaining graphic elements to get an attractive design.

How to Add Videos to Google Slides Using Hyperlink


It is possible that users may require to add videos to Google Slides that are not located on YouTube. Therefore an alternative is necessary. Other platforms like Twitch, Tik Tok, Vimeo, etc., are not supported by Google Slides. Yet, there is one way to add videos to Google slides using hyperlinks instead.

In this method, instead of embedding the desired video directly on the slide, you will add a direct link to the video. On clicking this hyperlink, you will be directed to the page loading the video.

Here is how to add videos to Google Slides using the hyperlink method:

  • Take a screenshot of the desired video you want to display on the slide as a thumbnail image.
  • Then, select the image and go to the hyperlink on the menu bar above.

  • Paste the URL link of the page consisting of the video, and click on Apply.

Your video will be added as a hyperlink. All you have to do is click on the thumbnail image added on the slide while giving your presentation, and this will automatically open the video in a new tab on your browser.

If you don’t want to add a hyperlink, simply download the video on your intern storage and embed it using Google Drive.
